I've wasted far too much time writing an automated Folder icon maker, it should have only taken arund 10 minutes, but well many issues with really badly documented and designed software (ImageMagick) plus some other hiccups

And to top it all off, It's not really very automated due to lack of tools to get Icons onto folders in a headless fashion.
But you can't sneeze at it if it pops out Icons like these

:-)

And It's Y3K Proof now!

512x512 Mac OS 10.5 Leopard Icon Size Friendly

29 hours away woo

And It's begun!

*Eats hat*

uhm... damn, did'nt see this coming for at least 3 more years....

OSX on a phone *dies*

hmmmm

Many devices have comparable features, but none come close to the awe factor of the iPhone, while it has many pitfalls (tied to Cingular, $$$, mediocre camera, no voip, Apple made apps only no third party!!! etc) I think It's a tremendous starting point into a diverse and vast market.

Much like the first iPod (was Mac only) this will only appeal to a small number of people, the upper 1% if you will

No doubt like only Apple can, it will re-itterate the iPhone in years to come and make this first model look as relatively lame as the first iPod now looks today.

I lookforward to see how this develops into a device for everyone! Welldone Apple for making another previously mundane market exciting!

Just found a bunch of HUGE icons in Leopard:

Oh my I found a stash!

Leopard has vectory capabilities now, and It's own aqua coreUI thingy that uses.. environment maps to draw all the buttons and stuff:

Metal buttons anyone??

Or how about some freaky yellow UI

How big can you go?

Pretty big.

Gross

Red Radios

The largest recorded pulldown button in recorded history:

You can't miss this close button:

Possibly the best UI color scheme since Windows XP

And I found an Apple dev bwahah!:

And made my own 3D aqua things:

All bloody day I've been watching this:

Every year I'm subjected to the awfulness that is Quicktime streaming, useless, slow, and down right frustrating as it continues to move the playhead while providing neither video of audio. Wont don't they just use progressive video download I don't know.

That aside, lets check my predictions:

"new 64bit Mac Tower with new case, most likely a derivation of the current case minus grill"
Correct, alas, the grill is still there 'yuck'

New to OS 10.5:
"iCal 3", yup

"iChat 4 with VOIP and better video support .mac only"
no VOIP yet but some interesting features that already exists via third party addon's like ChatFX

"Safari 3", no information here yet

"Spotlight 2 with keywords! and better tie ins with new Finder"
It may have keywords, I tm ay not, It's unsure, but things have been enhanced

"Finder 2", changes unsure yet.

"Some kind of virtualisation probably like Fast User Switch, not like WINE or X11"
Well, no mention here, but maybe that's there 'Top Secret' feature.

"Front Row 2", no details available here yet either.

"Vector UI" annoying absent, I was hoping a large focus would be here in order to get developers fixing apps NOW and not when It's too late.

In dreams:
"new File System, versioning/revision/history/rollback per file/folder"
Well it has a versioning system now, though not how id imagined it, not sure how practical this will be.

Time Machine:

And Space machine!!

I think overall, underwhelming, though I new it would be (being a pessimist)
The 'top secret' feature better be pretty amazing, though I doubt it is. They need to make huge changes to the way we deal with files in the Finder and a large UI overall to unify apps appearances with a move to vector. If I got both of those things I'd shut up and salivate, but otherwise, I'm left facing an update that will just fix a few things (hopefully everything) which... is grrreat and all, but certainly has no ground for them to start taunting Vista so much, it speaks of desperation.

I just pray to god they get this one right, cus It's possibly the most important release ever, it should be the coming of age we're all waiting for in the face of Vistas launch, and that kind of thing only happens every 5 years

iWorks new tools are pretty nice

I can't think of any apps they could add to the suites now, other than personal management app for say finances and time, which is a grey area they could move into. Time management and finances seems like a business orientated thing, but many people need it, but don't want to do it because the apps are business orientated and dull, it could bring management to a new personal level or organizing events and people, finances and projects. Organizing a meeting with someone on iChat, then recording that conversation and storing it, this could all link in with a better ability to string together events and items/people into a story or history and present it via a blog with iWeb. Much like I'm doing here, I don't know how interested other people are in doing this sort of thing though. There's the consumer end of things like visually seeing who you talked to with an inline picture and a transcript/recording with dates and events tied to pictures from iPhoto. And there's the pro side like project management tracking
Well It's 2:00am now, I haven't done any work yet, but I'm gonna make a push at tracking down a frustrating problem in Flash.
